Adam Oberlin is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of German at Princeton University, a position he has held since 2017. He has a broad background in Germanic philology, historical linguistics, medieval studies, language teaching, and second language curriculum development, holding a PhD from the University of Minnesota (2012). His areas of expertise covers Germanic languages, historical and corpus linguistics, textual and material philology, second language acquisition, and content-based instruction. At Princeton, Dr. Oberlin is deeply involved in language pedagogy, serving as the course head and supervisor for Intermediate, Intensive Intermediate, and Advanced German courses. Active in curricular innovation, he has developed new curricula and materials for second-year German language courses and L2 content courses. His administrative contributions include directing the Princeton in Vienna summer intensive immersion program, and serving as a language evaluation and placement officer. He is also a Fulbright advisor for Germany and Austria. Dr. Oberlin is the editor of the 6th and 7th editions of English Grammar for Students of German and has published numerous articles and chapters in his fields. His contributions have been recognized with various grants, including from Princeton University for innovation in undergraduate education and research assistance. Reflecting his broad linguistic experience, he is proficient in multiple modern and premodern Germanic and other European languages.
